Our Sunday School or 'Lighthouse', meets each Sunday morning between 10am and 11am during school terms. Located in the house next door to the Church at No2. Koongarra Avenue, there is a big cutout of a Lighthouse on the front door symbolising that we see our Sunday School as a 'lighthouse', helping give shape, direction and completeness to young children's lives.
Coordinated by Mrs Pauline Rawlins, we have a team of 22 teaching staff who participate on a rotation basis. Our curriculum is based on the Scripture Union Light Series and covers
- our Bubbles Group who are our pre school children from 3 to 5 years,
- our Splash 2 Group for those who have just started school and who have limited reading skills and concentration levels - ages 5 to 6 years,
- our Splash 1 Group for those with more developed reading skills and concentration levels - ages 7-9 years,
- our Xstream Group for children 9-12 years and
- our Grid Group for those 13 plus years
Our Sunday School programs vary according to age group but can include a variety of activities including Bible story telling, drama fun, singing, craft, games, watching DVDs, Bible computer games, play times, chat times and other self development opportunities including Bible discussions and studies for older age children.
Our focus during each weekly 'Lighthouse' activity is to help our young people learn about the Bible stories and to recognise that underneath the stories are messages of how God would have us live our daily lives and to help the children develop their appreciation of Jesus as their Lord and friend in their life's journey. Each week the children in the younger groups are involved in helping make something related to the Bible story of the day which they can take home with them. We encourage parents to listen to their child as they tak about what they have learnt each week.
There is also the opportunity to attend our Cafe Family Church Service which comences at 9:30 am where children can join in a praise and worship time before moving into the Sunday School program.
We would love to welcome your child, your neighbour's child, or your grandchildren to join with us at the 'Lighthouse' each week and for them to enjoy these activities in a safe and caring Christian environment where the lives of young people are our most important responsiblity.
